The Kingston Springs Gazette’s monthly book club will meet Monday, Nov. 30, to discuss “The Women” by bestselling author Kristin Hannah, a historical novel exploring the experiences of women who served during the Vietnam War.
The gathering will begin at 6 p.m. at SKYKING Pizza. Readers are invited to join the discussion and share their thoughts on the book.
Published in 2024, “The Women” follows Frances “Frankie” McGrath, a 20-year-old nursing student who joins the Army Nurse Corps in 1965 after her brother deploys to Vietnam. Unprepared for the brutality of war, Frankie forms deep friendships while caring for wounded soldiers. When she returns home, she faces another struggle as she tries to rebuild her life in a country divided over the war and often unwilling to recognize the sacrifices of women who served.
Through Frankie’s journey, Hannah explores friendship, trauma, patriotism and the often-overlooked contributions of female veterans. The novel is also a story about finding connection and strength in the aftermath of life-changing experiences.
The book club is open to readers interested in discussing the novel and connecting with fellow book lovers in the community.
