The Kingston Springs community is rallying around the family of a local husband and father after 48-year-old Marcus “Marc” DeWeese died in an apparent accidental drowning while in Alabama last week.

According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, DeWeese was reported missing near Shoal Creek before his body was recovered by dive teams on June 13. Authorities said no foul play is suspected and believe the incident was an accidental drowning.

Back home in Kingston Springs, friends and family are now focusing on supporting the loved ones he leaves behind — his wife of 26 years, Amanda, and their two daughters, Destiny and Jaylee.

A GoFundMe organized by DeWeese’s family has raised more than $10,500 toward a $12,000 goal to help cover funeral expenses and provide financial assistance for the family in the weeks ahead.

In the fundraiser, relatives described DeWeese as someone who “lived every day to the fullest” and loved his family fiercely.

“If you wanted to have a good time and laugh, he was the guy to be around,” the fundraiser states. “He’ll be remembered for his love for NASCAR, his legendary dancing skills, and for being a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to anyone who met him.”
