Kingston Springs Gazette to host storytelling series in celebration of town’s 60th anniversary

In honor of Kingston Springs’ 60th anniversary of incorporation, the Kingston Springs Gazette is excited to announce the launch of a new event series, “Straight from the Source.” This series will provide a unique opportunity to hear from longtime residents of Kingston Springs as they share their stories and reminisce on how the town has evolved over the years.

Each installment of “Straight from the Source” will feature local individuals who have deep roots in the community. They will reflect on their childhood memories; iconic community members such as Miss Carrie Street, Miss Virginia Sue Harris, and Miss Lula Finch (known as the “mother” of Kingston Springs); beloved hangout spots; and the transformation of key establishments like the fire department and Kingston Springs Elementary School.

The first event in the series will take place on Sunday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Turnbull Provisions in downtown Kingston Springs, and will feature Miss Candy and Larry Turner. The couple has lived in Kingston Springs for decades, and their stories span from their early years at Osburn Skating Rink to raising a large family while serving the community in numerous ways.

Miss Candy shared, “Larry and I met at the Osburn Skating Rink neighborhood hangout. We attended Kingston Springs Elementary School where we were friends. We began our relationship in the 1962-63 school year and have continued to grow together ever since.” Over the years, the Turners have contributed greatly to the town, from Larry’s role as chief of the fire department to Miss Candy’s 50-year career at Kingston Springs Elementary, where she is also a cheer coach.

This event is free to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own memories and stories to share as well. Refreshments will be available for purchase by Turnbull Provisions.

The “Straight from the Source” series will continue throughout the year with new installments each month, bringing even more local legends and untold stories to light.
