Softball, soccer fields receiving concessions and restrooms

The Cheatham County School District announced last week that construction at the elementary and middle school sports fields is underway for new, “much-needed” concession stands and bathrooms.

Both the softball field at Harpeth Middle School – also leveraged by the high school – and the soccer field at Kingston Springs Elementary School – used by the middle and high school boys and girls teams – will receive the new facilities.

According to the district, both buildings will be complete by spring 2025 – just in time for softball and boys soccer seasons.

At HMS, the building is being constructed near the main entrance of the football field and right across from the softball field. At KSES, the building is being constructed right behind the school playground and pavilion in the back of the school near the soccer field. According to the district, the new buildings will be slightly smaller than the concession stand and restrooms that are currently in use at the HMS football field.

The district is also building two concession stands and restrooms at Cheatham Middle School.

The estimated cost for the entire project – all four buildings – is just under $3 million. The district is using $2.46 million from the education debt fund and $500,000 from its fund balance. Meaning each new building costs about $740,000 to construct.

The County Commission initially voted down the funding for this project in April 2024, but then approved the funding a month later in May 2024 to allow the district to proceed with the construction.

“We are excited about these projects and looking forward to these new additions on our campuses,” the district wrote on Facebook on Sept. 13. “We want to thank the Cheatham County School Board and Cheatham County Commission for approving the funding for these much-needed facilities.”
