Cheatham County swears in new mayor for first time in decade

Bill Anderson was sworn in as the next Mayor of Cheatham County on Monday, Aug. 31, replacing Mayor Kerry McCarver who has served in the position since 2017.

Anderson won the seat during the May primary with 55% of the vote.

County Judge Phillip Maxey, who performed the swearing in ceremonies for all positions, said in his 37 years, he's never seen so many audience members during this particular event.

Maxey also gave a personal statement about Mayor Anderson, noting that he taught him in the 70s and 80s and "always knew" the incoming mayor was going to do goo work and give back to this community.

The county commissioners were also sworn in – with the exception of District 6 representative Jimmy Hedgepath, who was absent – as were the three new School Board members.

Aside from a couple independent candidates, only republicans were sworn into office for the 2026 election cycle. They will all serve four year terms until the 2030 election season.
