Early voting tops 2,000 ahead of May 5 primary that will decide county mayor
With early voting now complete, 2,028 Cheatham County residents cast ballots ahead of the May 5 primary election – a race that will effectively decide the next county mayor.
With early voting now complete, 2,028 Cheatham County residents cast ballots ahead of the May 5 primary election – a race that will effectively decide the next county mayor.
The county has just under 30,000 registered voters, meaning early turnout has already surpassed 6%. By comparison, total turnout in the August 2024 primaries reached about 13%, or just under 4,000 voters.
According to early voting data, roughly 12% of ballots cast were in the Democratic primary, with the vast majority in the Republican primary.
Because no Democratic candidate filed for county mayor, the Republican primary winner on May 5 will ultimately take the seat. Learn more about both candidates – Bill Anderson and Kerry McCarver – before heading to the polls.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. In South Cheatham, Kingston Springs voters will cast ballots at Harpeth High School, while Pegram voters will vote at Pegram City Hall.
The general election is scheduled for Aug. 6, with early voting set for July 17 through Aug. 1.
