Pegram Fire Department to mark 25th anniversary of 9/11 with annual tribute

The Pegram Fire Department will gather with the community Thursday, Sept. 11, for its fourth annual 9/11 tribute, honoring the lives lost and the firefighters and first responders who answered the call 25 years ago.

The event will be held at Pegram Park, with food and fellowship beginning at 5 p.m. before the tribute program begins at 6 p.m.

The evening's schedule includes:

• 5-6 p.m. — Food and fellowship, with tacos available for purchase from La Luz Del Mundo (Light of the World Church) and free drinks provided by the church.
• 6 p.m. — Opening remarks from Pegram Fire Chief Brent Stuart.
• Speech — Lt. Taylor Davidson.
• Moment of silence honoring those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
• 6:20 p.m. — Walk of remembrance.

The annual tribute was created as a way for the Pegram community to come together and remember the 343 firefighters who died during the terrorist attacks in New York City.

Participants will walk laps together in honor of the victims, the heroes who responded and the enduring spirit of the country.

The department will also have its custom 9/11 tribute T-shirts available for purchase at the event for $25. All proceeds will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which was established in honor of New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who died responding to the attacks. The foundation supports Gold Star and fallen first responder families.

The Pegram Fire Department invites residents to attend the tribute, share a meal with their neighbors and take part in an evening dedicated to remembering those whose lives were changed forever on Sept. 11.
