Pegram Planning Commission hears concept plan for grocery store
The Pegram Planning Commission heard an initial concept plan for a grocery store at the strip on Highway 70 on Monday, Feb. 9.
*3/12 editor's note: During the March Pegram Planning Commission meeting, Chair Gene Hannah announced that this concept plan was withdrawn.
*Editor's note: A previous version of this story inaccurately stated that the proposed store will take over Jennette Realtors. The address on the concept plan's application was incorrectly written down. The proposed store is actually looking at occupying 552 Highway 70 - current home to Kormac.
The Pegram Planning Commission heard an initial concept plan for a grocery store at the strip on Highway 70 on Monday, Feb. 9.
Surveyor Brian McCain represented his clients during the meeting, who expressed interest in turning 552 Highway 70 – current home to Kormac – into a grocery store.
The application states that the interested party “would like to turn the existing strip mall into a grocery store and add parking and a shed in the back.”
McCain presented the initial concept plan to the Planning Commission, which resulted in a 20 minute discussion on the details of the 2,500 square foot location’s fence, parking and setbacks. The presentation of an initial concept plan is purely informational, and the Planning Commission members did not take a vote.
Separately during the meeting, Mayor Charles Morehead swore in new Planning Commission member Kevin Stewart. This was the commission’s first meeting since September, due to no new business being brought to the group.
The Town of Pegram Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at Pegram Town Hall.
