Who will be crowned Dog Mayor of Kingston Springs?

Kingston Springs’ next mayor could have four legs, a wagging tail and a serious appetite for treats.

The Kingston Springs Gazette and the Town of Kingston Springs are teaming up for Paws in the Park, a free community event Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kingston Springs Dog Park — and one lucky pup will be crowned the honorary Dog Mayor of Kingston Springs.

The Dog Mayor competition is all about giving back: dogs will earn votes through donations to Cheatham County Animal Control, with the pup raising the most money taking home the title.

The morning will also feature a dog costume contest, best trick competition and a dog-and-owner look-alike contest, giving local pups plenty of opportunities to show off their personalities — and their humans plenty of opportunities to embarrass themselves.

Cheatham County Animal Control will be on hand with adoptable dogs and information about the shelter and its services. Local pet-related vendors will also be there, giving attendees a chance to meet area businesses and pick up something special for their four-legged friends.

And thanks to White Bluff Tractor Supply, dogs can cool off with splash pools and water stations throughout the event. If your pup still needs a costume for the contest, Tractor Supply is a good place to start shopping.

There will also be pup cups sponsored by American Canine Dog Training Academy, plus a mini dog photo booth where families can take home a Polaroid photo of their favorite furry friend.

Most importantly, Paws in the Park is free and open to everyone. Bring your dog, meet your neighbors, check out the Kingston Springs Dog Park and spend a Saturday morning surrounded by some of the community’s cutest residents.
