Colby's Army, a local nonprofit organization, will hold their 10th Annual Yard Sale Extravaganza Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Colby's Army Learning Center (1394 George Boyd Road, Ashland City, TN 37015).
The extravaganza is a yard sale, bake sale and arts and crafts sale, combined with fun family activities such as meeting a therapy horse and walking the facility’s trails. It is typically the organization's largest fundraiser of the year.
Most of the event will be held indoors or under tents, and will be held rain or shine. The event is, quite possibly, the largest annual yard sale in Cheatham County. In 2024, more than 700 people from seven counties attended the event.
Colby's Army helps people with life challenges through outreach and interactions with animals and nature. Programs include therapeutic riding, equine assisted ground-based services, organic-style gardening, a food and clothing bank and homeless outreach.
Many local residents contribute the contents of their closets, attic, basement and garage to the sale. This year, intake of donated items for the sale runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 4. Residents are encouraged to set up a drop-off time by emailing info@colbysarmy.org, or leaving a voice or text message at 615-434-4111. Colby's Army volunteers can also sometimes pick up large volumes of donated items. Almost every item in good condition can be accepted, with the exception of: large appliances, older electronics, king-sized furniture, beds and mattresses, tube-style televisions, printers, office furniture, encyclopedias and magazines, VHS and cassette tapes and items that are too heavy to lift.
"We will have an entire barn full of items, thousands of them, that are priced to sell," said Lisa Wysocky, the organization's executive director. "We always have a lot of very nice furniture, toys and baby items, holiday decorations, household goods, books, CDs and DVDs, lawn items, sports equipment, horse tack, small appliances, and much more."
The event is still seeking sponsors and those interested can email info@colbysarmy.org, or leave a voice or text message at 615-434-4111.
All proceeds go toward helping people with life challenges reach their goals, and helping needy individuals and families get back on their feet. Those who would like to contribute but cannot attend the event can go to ColbysArmy.org and click on the yellow donate button. It will lead people to a PayPal page where they can type the amount of their donation. Or, checks can be mailed to Colby's Army, 1394 George Boyd Road, Ashland City, TN 37015.
