Democratic candidate Darden Copeland made a campaign stop in Kingston Springs on Sunday, hosting a town hall at SkyKing Pizza where he urged voters to send “fresh leadership” to Washington.

Copeland drew more than 100 local residents to hear him lay out his congressional campaign and take questions on issues including Washington gridlock, health care and economic opportunity.

“I’m fed up with Washington and I’m fighting back,” Copeland told attendees. He promised to meet voters across all 14 counties in Tennessee’s 7th District and said his campaign is focused on listening to local concerns. Free food and drinks were provided at the event, part of a series of “Fed Up” town halls he held across the district.

Copeland is one of four Democrats on the primary ballot, alongside Nashville state Reps. Aftyn Behn, Vincent Dixie and Bo Mitchell. The Republican field remains crowded with 10 contenders, including state Reps. Jody Barrett of Dickson and Gino Bulso of Brentwood. Republican candidate Matt Van Epps was officially endorsed by President Donald Trump on Friday, just days before the primary election. Four independents are also running and will appear on the general election ballot Dec. 2.

Early voting ended Oct. 2, with 2,276 ballots cast locally. 1,347 ballots were cast for a republican and 929 ballots were cast for a democrat.

Election Day is Tuesday, Oct. 7. In Cheatham County, Kingston Springs residents will vote at Harpeth High School, while Pegram residents will cast ballots at Pegram Park. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The special election was triggered by the retirement of Republican Rep. Mark Green, who stepped down in July after winning reelection in 2024. His departure set up a competitive primary in a district that stretches from Cheatham County across Middle and West Tennessee.
