HMS, HHS welcome new additions

The Cheatham County School District (CCSD) announced on May 22 that Michel Morrow will serve as Harpeth Middle School’s (HMS) new assistant principal, following the departure of Layne Cooper, who was recently named the principal at East Cheatham Elementary School.
Morrow – who served as HMS’s academic specialist since 2021 – will work alongside Susie Kephart, who was tapped to replace HMS Principal Audra Williams beginning July 1.
"I am thrilled to step into the role of assistant principal at Harpeth Middle School,” said Morrow, who came to the Cheatham County School District four years ago. “My time here as the academic specialist has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m honored to continue serving our amazing school community in this new capacity. HMS holds a special place in my heart, and I’m excited for all the great things we’ll achieve together.”
Morrow has worked in the education field for 27 years. Before joining HMS, she taught kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade and fifth grade. She has taught in three districts in Tennessee and one in Virginia.
Additionally, Harpeth High School announced on May 21 that Dickson County alumnae, Mallory Minnis, will be joining the Lady Indians volleyball team as head coach. Minnis is taking over the program from Kaylee Heggie, who has led the team since 2020. Heggie accepted a new position with the Fairview High School volleyball team for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Lady Indians volleyball team has had major success in recent years, placing third in the TSSAA State Tournament in both 2019 and 2023.
Separately, the HMS volleyball program is currently looking for a new head coach to lead the team this fall. Contact the HMS Athletic Director Melanie Buchanan at melanie.buchanan@ccstn.org.
There are nearly two dozen open positions across the southern cluster of schools, ranging from baseball coach at HHS to academic specialist at HMS. All current openings can be found and applied for here.
