CCAC clears shelter with ‘Operation Silent Night’

More than 50 dogs and cats went home for the holidays during Cheatham County Animal Control’s (CCAC) Operation Silent Night program.

During the month of December, CCAC saw a total of 53 adoptions as a direct success of Operation Silent Night – an effort to get all shelter animals into foster homes from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2.

Forty-two Cheatham County animals were in foster homes for the holidays, and 10 of those animals were adopted by their holiday foster families.

“We were overwhelmed by the response of not only Cheatham County, but also the surrounding communities. It was amazing to see our animals thrive in home settings,” said Natalie Harzman, the Operation Silent Night lead for CCAC. “We hope the holiday fostering program will raise awareness for all the positive things happening at CCAC and encourage continued involvement of the public through fostering, adopting or volunteering.”

Four Middle Tennessee animal shelters – including Cheatham, Maury, Davidson and Williamson counties – teamed up for the month of December “to give shelter pets the ultimate holiday gift – love, warmth, and the chance to find loving homes.”

According to CCAC, every available dog was in a foster home or adopted during this time period. Operation Silent Night also saw the adoptions of CCAC’s two longest resident cats and one of CCAC’s longest resident dogs.

As the cats and dogs make their return to the shelter, CCAC is in need of more volunteers in the form of daily dog walkers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
