The Harpeth Middle School (HMS) Indians basketball teams wrapped up their regular seasons this week, showcasing commendable efforts and sportsmanship on both the boys and girls teams. Despite facing challenges, the athletes exhibited growth as teams and finished the season on a high note.
The HMS girls' team concluded their regular season with a record of 6-12. While the numbers may not fully reflect their dedication and hard work, these girls demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the season. Notably, they closed out the regular season with impressive victories against William James and Hillsboro Middle School. Unfortunately, their journey in the district tournaments faced a setback as they fell short to a skilled and aggressive Cheatham Middle team on Thursday night. Undeterred, the girls look forward to competing in the upcoming area tournament.
The HMS boys' team experienced a season marked by ups and downs, showcasing a wealth of talent when playing collectively. Their high-energy and quick-paced game kept spectators on the edge of their seats all season. Despite a defeat against a formidable William James team earlier in the week, the boys secured a convincing 46-23 victory against Hillsboro Middle. In a thrilling first-round district tournament matchup against Cheatham Middle, the Indians faced a tough challenge. Although Cheatham narrowed the gap at halftime, the Indians delivered a strong fourth quarter, securing a 50-38 victory over the Bobcats.
With this triumph, they advance to the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, at 4:45 p.m., where they will face off against Dickson Middle.

Adding to the excitement, the HMS Cheerleaders have been instrumental in supporting both teams throughout the year. Their encouragement has been invaluable, contributing to the spirited atmosphere at games. The cheerleading squad will be taking the spotlight in the area Cheer Competition on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11:30 a.m. The community is invited to join in wishing them luck and to come out in full support of this amazing squad.
The HMS Indians have not only displayed their athletic prowess but also embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork. As they continue their journey in the tournaments and competition, the community eagerly anticipates more thrilling moments and achievements from these dedicated student-athletes.
