TNKids Nutrition brings free summer meal program to Kingston Springs, Pegram families

As school lets out and summer begins, TNKids Nutrition is stepping in to help fight food insecurity in Cheatham County. The free summer meal program, which began May 21 and runs through Aug. 6, will provide free weekly food boxes to children and families across the area — including right here in Kingston Springs and Pegram.

The boxes, which include a combination of shelf-stable and frozen items, are packed with enough food to provide seven breakfasts and seven lunches each week. This vital program ensures that local children continue to receive nutritious meals even when school cafeterias are closed for the summer.

Deliveries will take place every Monday in south Cheatham. In Pegram, the stop will be at Pegram Elementary School on Mondays from 9 to 9:30 a.m. In Kingston Springs, families can pick up food boxes on Mondays from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Kingston Springs City Park.

To receive a food box, simply be at the listed site on time — organizers stress that they will only be on site briefly, so arriving early is encouraged. Parents or guardians can pick up the box, and children do not need to be present. However, a photo ID is required for the person picking up the food.

This summer program is a continued effort by TNKids Nutrition to support families in need and ensure that every child has access to consistent, healthy meals — no matter the season.
