Gary Ray (G.R.) Hester, age 76 of Kingston Springs, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, surrounded by his family.
G.R. was born on March 1, 1948, in Pampa, Texas, to Guy and Erma Hester.
G.R.'s early years were spent growing up on the Morse lease outside of
McLean, Texas, and in McLean after his family moved to town in the early
1960’s. G.R. graduated from McLean High School in 1966 and attended
West Texas State University.
G.R. was a true cowboy at heart from an early age, known to many in life
as “The Cowboy.” He was proud of his long career in law enforcement in
Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In April 2023, he published
his memoir – "Shadow Man" – which contained stories of his life and career. He
was a talented artist and had an affinity for Native American culture.
He loved fishing and being outdoors, and was known for his sense of
humor, Western style, storytelling ability, and being a hard worker.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Timmy and his parents Guy and
Erma.
Survivors include his son, Grant Coffey and wife, Leigh Ann of Mississippi;
daughter, Stacey Brasher and husband, Eric of Kingston Springs; four grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren; brother, Jim and wife, Beth; sister, Amber and
husband, Bob Schmitz.
Services will be held at a later date in Pampa, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks
ask that you honor and remember G.R. by sharing stories and memories of
him through the Taylor Funeral Home website. Thank you in advance for
