The Fiddle & Pick: Making old music new again

Officially, it's the Musical Heritage Center of Middle Tennessee. But to its Pegram neighbors and the legion of aspiring musicians who have studied and jammed there, the rambling old building near the town's only traffic light is known simply as the Fiddle & Pick.


“It's both a noun and a verb,” explains Gretchen Priest-May, the facility's founder, owner and director. “Where are you going?” “To the Fiddle & Pick.” “What are you going to do when you get there?” “Fiddle and pick.” Of course, there's a great deal more to the story than that.
